YES, Been available for a while (IIRC sometime during 3.x) from a browser like Firefox.
It might be harder from a phone or small screen

Yes, starting in calibre 4.

Editing metadata works only in the "full" view, not the mobile or the OPDS views. The browser you use must be capable of displaying the full view.

Precondition: Choose one or both of:
  • In calibre create a user with "write" permission (Preferences / Sharing over the net / User accounts). Be sure to give that user permission to use the right libraries. Note that as far as I can tell there is no "guest" access. Once you have created a user, all access will require an authenticated user. For this reason you might want to create 2 accounts, one with write permission and one without.
  • In calibre / Preferences / Sharing over the net / Advanced, check the "Allow un-authenticated local connections to make changes". Checking this box means that any person using or program running on the computer running the calibre server can make changes.
My guess is that you want the first option so you can make changes from a separate computer/device.

To edit metadata:
  1. Connect with a browser using the full interface. For me that is http://192.168.120.10:8080/
  2. Choose the library.
  3. Choose the book. You can choose virtual libraries under the "3-dots" menu on the right. You can of course use search.
  4. When looking at the book and its metadata, click the "Edit" button, a pencil on the upper right.
  5. Edit any field(s) you wish.
  6. Once you have finished changing fields, press the "Apply Changes" button.
