Overdrive and Kobo Mini

I understand you can't borrow an Overdrive book on a Kobo Mini. But I've tried Overdrive on the Aura 2 and it "opens the gate" for the other Kobos (you simply sync and it downloads the library book automatically to non-Overdrive enabled readers). But not to the Mini (even though it will download other books from the Kobo Store). Is this because the Mini is stuck at a firmware release that is too old, or is there some other blocking mechanism at work here? This might be one reason to upgrade the Mini to the newest release.

Thanks for any info.

I download books from the library, open in in Adobe Digital Editions. Then you connect the Mini to the computer with a cable, and in Digital Editions, drag and drop the book into the reader.

I use this method for my H2O as well. I had trouble with the newest version of Digital Editions. I use 3.0 and it works well, both on my Mac, and my Surface Pro.

I use Linux, so native ADE is out of the question and (so far) I haven't had any luck running it under Wine. That's why I like my Tolinos, they have ADE built-in so I can borrow from Overdrive (or buy from various bookstores) using their web browser directly. I got a Kobo Aura 2 from Shop Goodwill that allows me to borrow directly from the library and then whatever I borrow shows up on my older Kobos (except for the Mini). I'm going to go ahead and upgrade the Mini to modern firmware and see if that works. (Now I just have to make sure I get the right firmware file.)

Updated to the newest firmware -- at first the Overdrive book would show up when syncing but then disappear when syncing was completed. (It may have been doing that before the update and I just didn't notice it.) Once I signed out of the Mini, then signed back in (setting up the account again) everything worked fine. So the Aura Edition is also an Overdrive "gateway" for the Mini now.
