13" reader Sony vs Onyx
I am on the edge between these two. I don't really need to take notes, so if there are other options in the 13" range I would be happy to consider.
Uses - Reading PDFs (1-2 columns), very occasionally browsing, connecting to my PDF library via Zotero android app. - Easily transfer files, in particular PDFs, from my computer, or open them directly from internet. - Use as a second monitor definitely a plus, and other uses that these more powerful readers can offer. In terms of hardware I prefer the Sony since it's lighter, which is a big point since I travel a lot, but in terms of software the Boox seems much better and more flexible and it's more recent. The Sony seems a close system but it can be rooted, although starting to root a new expensive device doesn't seem the best way to start. They both seems to work with reference software such as Zotero and Mendeley. Possibility of turning off front lighting, I don't understand if this is possible. EDIT: I meant front light, NOT back light. Last edited by xxtraloud; 05-11-2020 at 10:34 AM. |

The Sony is a Corporate virtual paper / PDF only solution. Only works via the supplied application (Mac or Windows).

Sony builds on very old Android - Onyx on almost current one. The hardware of Onyx is much more powerful. But I can't help with that decision. |

Yep. It's official. Sony Reader has "ruined" books for me. A final "review." | WilliamG | Sony Reader | 48 | 01-14-2011 03:49 AM |
