It's not possible to jailbreak. If you really want to read ePub, buy a Kobo that doesn't need jailbreaking to read ePub.

It's probably not possible to jailbreak the new Paperwhite ("PW4" here aka 2018 model aka 10th gen PW) because the firmware would probably be too recent. If you read the sticky "Open Sesame" thread (jailbreak guide), you will find that you want a firmware version of 5.10.1.3 or older to readily jailbreak your PW4.

There was a recent post that Amazon UK at least still had older firmware on the 32GB models that the poster purchased. Presumably there is a slower turnover on the more expensive 32GB version. You'd be less likely to find that on the more popular 8GB model.

If you do buy a new Paperwhite do not let it update over the air (OTA). Put it into airplane mode right away so that the firmware version does not automatically update until you decide what you are going to do e.g. jailbreak or possibly keep it on airplane mode and wait to see if a solution to jailbreak newer firmware versions is found.

So how do you register a PW4 if it's never been connected to WiFi? How do you sync without WiFi? How do you download directly from Amazon (no side loading) without WiFi? You cannot create collections without being registered. What else cannot be done without being registered?

As far as I know, our "fake registration" add-in still works.

If you want to register your Kindle, it can be done without wi-fi by logging into your Kindle account on a PC and submitting your Kindle's serial number. Done

Many people including myself prefer to side load books, that is download them to a PC first, then transfer them to a Kindle by USB. Doing so means that wi-fi has little value to me and a big downside - it might damage my jailbreak by way of an unexpected firmware update.

And if you want to set up collections you can do that without wi-fi on a jailbroken Kindle.

You'd rather the OP who expressed a specific interest in jailbreaking blithely connect to wi-fi which could summarily lose his ability to jailbreak?

Notwithstanding that the OP could do most things without wi-fi, my suggestion was simply that he turn off internet access initially until he has a chance to assess his options.

The OP can connect to wi-fi if he wishes of course. But if he wants to jailbreak it would be best to at least block OTA updates for the moment via USB before turning airplane mode off again.

Live and let live. Just because you consider wi-fi essential does not necessarily mean that everyone does.

From the wording of the post, OP primarily wants jailbreak for EPUB. Doesn't seem like he's interested in buying a Kindle if it can't be jailbroken immediately.

Under the current circumstances it sounds like the best that could be done without the jailbreak for this case would be for the OP to use Calibre to convert the EPUB to AZW3 and then side load that file to the Kindle. I do this myself with EPUB books as opposed to using KOReader. I also use the hyphenate plugin in Calibre to make reading easier.
