Lost Kindle

I lost my Kindle, left in a cab, and as soon as I got home I deregistered it. There is a chance it will be returned since there's a card with my name and phone number between the Kindle and the case.

Is there anything else I should do right now? I don't want Amazon Kindle to brick it now.

Contact Cab Co. Advertise it Lost in local papers Offer a reward. Advertise it lost in Local Facebook Yard sales.

In addition to the other things, hope. The fact that you have some kind of identifying info with the kindle increases the chances you will get it back tremendously.

I lost a PW3 and called Amazon to report it. Because I did report it they said if I found it I could re-activate / register it but no one else could.

Bummer. Sorry for your loss.

I am now going to ponder the philosophical implications of "bricking" a lost device. Will it be more likely to be returned? Since it was not stolen, is it better for it to end up in a landfill instead of being used by the hands of whoever found it or was given it afterwards?

Seriously, contact the cab company. They might have it.

If the user doesn't report it to Amazon and someone malicious "claims" it, they could theoretically purchase books using the original owner's Amazon account.

Definitely worth having Amazon freeze it.

I deregistered the Kindle within thirty minutes. I'm not sure what you mean by freezing but I don't want to brick it.

Call Amazon support and see what they tell you. In my experience customer support is excellent and who knows they may offer you a deal on a kindle (or not). When I go out I purposely take one of my "cheap" ereaders like my kindle basic or old sony ereader I bought on shop goodwill in case something happens it's no big deal and I'll just get another one.

So sorry to hear you've lost your Kindle, but yes definitely talk to the cab company as they may have it sitting in a lost and found. Thankfully it is only a Kindle, not a phone or a tablet (much more desirable to the masses), so there is a good chance you will yet get it back. Good luck!
