Content Publication Date in Author Field on Paperwhite (PW3)

Recently, my Kindle Paperwhite (PW3) has started showing publication dates of certain books in the Author field (it will appear "[Date] | [Author]"). It has done this only for certain books--I think related to a time I (rather foolishly, I confess) tried to do an auto-update of some of the books that are marked in my Manage Content and Devices as "Update Available." That was a mistake.

The books carry that same information in the "All" (that is, the cloud-stored) copy, which I guess the Paperwhite uses to fill out such information in the absence of a local field (this has been something of an ongoing issue with Kindle for me, generally on author_sort). But now, it doesn't look like I can use a plugboard to clear the pubdate field on the local copy, or otehrwise manually erase that information.

Is there any way to clear this, or am I just stuck with it?

(Alternatively/relatedly, is there any way I can just delete wherever the Kindle locally stores its knowledge of what is in my cloud? I never want to use it online again, so maybe I can just find the right database or metadata file and delete it?)

(Before you ask--I haven't jailbroken it and I'd really rather not.)

Do a factory reset. (This will also erase all your books and settings.)

Then leave airplane mode just long enough to register.

Remove wifi access point info from the kindle.

(IMHO jailbreak would be a better way to go.)

Heh. Tried that once, wasn't fast enough reengaging airplane mode. Maybe I'll try it again.

Being barely in range of a somewhat overloaded access point might help.
