Calibre version compatibility
I am currently creating the Calibre database on a Windows 10 machine with the 3.38 version. The database is copied to a Windows XP machine running Calibre 1.48. The database is also used on an other Windows 10 machine using a different Calibre version. Currently, all users can transfer the documents to there respective ereaders that are Sony PRS-T1 or T3 units.
A new ereader has been added, a Kobo Forma unit, and I seem to understand that I should upgrade to version 4.18 to be compatible to the Kobo unit and convert all epub books to the Kepub format. My question is: - Will the upgrade to version 4.18 on the maintenance PC change the ability of the other users, with older versions, to use the database? - Do I need to convert epub books to the kepub format to have the Kobo Forma be able to read the books? ![]() |

there are not compatibility issues between 3.x and 4.x with respect to sharing the library.

grr50, what version Forma firmware are you using? I think it would be a good idea to update to 4.18.

Sorry for the Calibre version errors, versions used are 1.48, 3.35 and 3.38.1. Calibre recommendation is to update to 4.3.0.
I do not have the Forma firmware version yet, it is probably the newest since it was received yesterday. Will Calibre be able to be used with the Kobo Forma if I upgrade Calibre to version 4.3.0? |

Sorry, I should have made a specific post for the Kobo.
The question is really, by upgrading Calibre version to 4.3.0, the other computers that have versions 1.48 and 3.35 will be able to read the database? |

For calibre to use the Kobo Forma, you need at least calibre 3.33.1. Earlier versions of calibre will not see the Forma at all. If the device has Kobo firmware 4.18.x, then you either need to upgrade to at least 4.1, or turn on the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option in the driver. It is safe to do this if you do not want to update calibre. |
