Ego-Shooter Cube for Dell Axim X50v released

Intel has created a port of the ego-shooter game Cube to support their latest mobile cpu & 3d chipset (the Intel 2700 of the Dell Axim X50v). Click here for the download links and click here for some older screenshots.

What is Cube anyways?
Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail on most machines

OK... Now I feel like the beginner.

Any hints on how to install this package? The PPCREADME is not much help.... wait... it is no help at all..

1. Download cube_2004_05_22_pocketpc_bin_xscale_opengl_es.zip (don't worry about the date, the files within the zip are actually from January 2005)
2. Unzip cube_2004_05_22_pocketpc_bin_xscale_opengl_es.zip
3. Copy the entire unzipped cubeppc directory to your SD Card (I use WiFi to connect to my local workstation via shared drives, but you can use a card reader or try ActiveSync)
4. On your Axim, use a filemanager to browse to the cubeppc directory on your SD Card and click on cube.exe to start Cube.

The result is QUITE breathtaking!

Btw in the game, one of the hardware buttons brings you to the game menu, where you can also load various game maps and change gfx tweakings.

Perhaps it is a memory problem.
How much Program (not Storage!) memory to you have available (Settings->System->Memory)? I have ~30MB, which worked fine for Cube.

So the game doesn't start at all or when does the error show?

THe game runs, but is VERY dark... so dark that I cant see where I am onthe menu....

If I go to adjust gamma, it sez I cant.

Error is "cannot use overbright lighting, using default mode" on the top left after I start.

I don't know it looks good to me (the game is kinda dark in general). If I try changing the gamma settings I receive the following error message:
Quote:
Could not set gamma (card/driver doesn't support it)
sdl: SDL compiled without gamma ramp support
Note the second part which tells us that the binary was compiled without gamma ramp support, which is, I assume, why Gamma doesn't work.

Another question is how to get to multiplayer mode. When attempted it appears only to try localhost. I have tried this on the desktop ver and have no issues playing multi (although I can't figure how to setup my own server)

Does this run on our poor QVGA machines as well, or is it VGA only?

Craig.
