Kobo Clara HD fell into the water

Hi guys,

My Kobo Clara HD fell into the water.
I picked it out of the water quicky (after one second), opened it and jently dried.

Kobo was working, but it was really slower and after few seconds (I barely have time to open some book and go to the second list, or open some item in menu) it stucked and automatically restart...I tried it multiple times and same situation.

So I deduced there is maybe som problem with system. So I connect Kobo to the PC and make backup.

After that I tried factory reset (both via menu and manual), restoring started but after few second it also stucked...I started the restore again but same situation - it is working few seconds (progress bar dots are moving), but after that it stay stucked ...I wait more than hour but nothing happened.

Do you have please any suggestions what can I do?
I'm thinking that maybe I can try to delete SD card and copy there new system image.

In any case stop turning it on. As with any electronic device, you should switch it off immediately and not turn it on on until you have completely let it dry. I don't know what damage has been done, but focus on drying now.

Thank you for your advice but I'm affraid it is too late.

It fell into the water yesterday morning.
I didn't find any guide how to turn kobo off so I only left it sleeping.
When I tried to turn it off via power button, it was only restarting.
So I only dried it.

Today it is stucking as I wrote.

Press and hold the power button until you see the screensaver. When you use full screen screensaver with the reading progress window disabled there is no visual indication that the device is turned off, so this can indeed be confusing.

That isn't enough time to be sure it has dried out. You need to leave it somewhere warm and dry for a few days. I would also open it and take the SD card out and disconnect the cables for the screens. These will tend to trap water and take a lot longer to dry.

Powering off a properly working Kobo device is done by holding the power button down for a few seconds. This will trigger a shutdown and show the powered off screen. If there are issues, hold it down for 10-20 seconds and it will force the device to turn off. But, the screen won't change.

Ideally you would power it off and disconnect the battery. Then dry it off.
Leaving the battery connected could lead to corrosion occurring even though only very low current is used when powered off.
