Setting metadata from ebook files
If I explore an old library, and discover it has no tags or is missing a lot of metadata that would normally show, and it it NOT a restored library, will setting the metadata from ebook files be the same as restoring?
Also, is there a way to select which ebook file is being restored? I have a lot of mixed formats in the folders and was wondering if it will always use the .epub or if it will use a specific or all? Anyway of choosing how that goes? If there is a way of setting the files in a hierarchical or use all files in the hierarchical? For example, I would like to use the .epub files to set the titles because the .azw3 will have the pre-edited Amazon titles. However, I want to grab the tags and other metadata from all the files. Not sure how that would go about, but if there was a way of selecting the order this will help with bulk editing. |

search for azw3 in the folder using windows explorer, delete all files. Set metadata, restore all deleted files. and no there is no way to control the way metadata is read from multiple formats. And no reading metadata from ebook files is not a restore. A restore woudl be reading metadata from the opf files in the folder.

Thanks,
I'm not sure about what you are suggeting. Am I to go into the individual book records, delete the .azw3 files that I do not want to be using to "set metadata from ebook file", then set the metadata from the remaining book files, then restore the deleted .azw3 files using previous versions? Or the restore? Not sure what you are suggesting. Does Calibre restore library restore deleted books? I'm not sure if that is what you are saying. If it helps any, when I say "restore" I am refering to the library function "restore library" and not setting the metadata from .ebook files. I am interested in knowing if setting the records from the files is the same as restoring a library that is missing the .opf files. As well as choosing which specific files I can set the metadata from, should I choose to do so in bulk edit. Also, I did know that Calibre uses the .opf files, but many times they are missing from my older libraries and when I restore, it's like I get the book records directly from the book. Thanks again! |

restore reads the OPF file in the book folder , and uses the cover that is there also

Nevermind.
I was trying to figure out if I should try and restore libraries that have no .opf files in the book folders, or if I should just set the medadata from the files directly. |
