Sigil 0.9.18 problem
When I try to use 'Metadata Editor' or 'Generate Table of Contents' Sigil Locks up. I have to use Task Manager to end the task.
How do I fix the problem? Running Win 10.0.18362 on Dell Inspiron 11-3147 Apparently Sigil is opening a child window which does not become visible or on top. |

Try pressing Ctrl+space, if a control menu, pops press 'M' and then use the arrow keys to move the ME/GT window into view. Else, close Sigil, copy the sigil.ini file somewhere safe, then remove the relevant window geometry settings with a text editor. @KH, DD - suggestion, move all the window geometry settings into a separate ini/json file that can nuked with impunity when this sort of thing happens. I'm not keen to overhaul the SettingStore code just save the multi-monitor crowd a minute here or there. Especially when they're already used to fussing with things a bit.

Well....as part of the multi-monitor crowd....
Sigil worked fine on multi-monitor until the switch to the new system. I haven't complained because I figured it was something that was being worked on...or on the list to be worked...or something. Plus, y'all are volunteers - I wouldn't complain anyway. It isn't a minor thing to lose the undocking capability...or at least, it isn't minor when you forget to close an undocked window and close Sigil first. The next time you try and start Sigil, it's frozen and you have to go through the whole changing the number of monitors you have back to 1 - starting Sigil and getting the window settings back to what it accepts - then going back in to windows settings and putting all the multi-monitor stuff back together. Definitely more than a couple minutes. Since I've done that more times than I can count, I finally gave up and don't undock windows. So, to me, Sigil is a single monitor only program until that gets addressed. |

Buy me a second monitor and I'll work on it.
![]() But seriously: how can we address this unless we KNOW there's a serious issue with how the latest Sigil handles a multi-monitor setup compared with how previous versions did? This is the first I'm hearing of a huge difference between the versions. What sigil version did this start with? Last edited by DiapDealer; 10-26-2019 at 06:36 PM. |

No multi-monitor, using a laptop.
Okay, it appears to be a geometry issue, I can fix that. Thanks. |

If segregating window geometry isn't a solution, how about a Reset Window Geometry button. BR |

why don't you put a monitor in an amazon wish list and post the link - I am sure you'd have a 2nd monitor pretty damn quick - seriously.

![]() ![]() ![]() I used to do 'Desktop moves' (relocate the user and the hardware). I would say the 75% had 2 Monitors (or #2 was attached to their Laptop: Also way more prevalent than 5 years ago) We are talking many hundred moves. I run 3 (was 4, but AMD video driver won't enable, so I no longer use the second port on the main video card) Monitors replaced all those reference guides I had spread on my desk, 20 years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I can't remember ANY LCD caring if 50/60Hz. (some CRT's had Iron core transformers. Yo can run 50Hz stuff on 60Hz, but not the other way. 50Hz xfmrs needed more iron ) |
