Error Message - help please

Hi, I have this error message when I plug my Kobo into my laptop I don't know what it means or how to fix I'm hoping someone can help me

CorruptError: database disk image is malformed

Traceback (most recent call last):

That usually means the database on the device is corrupt. If you have a backup of the database, you can restore it. If not, you will need to sign out of the Kobo account on the device and back in. This will rebuild the database on the device. Unfortunately, you will lose the reading status and any bookmarks/annotations for sideloaded books.

thank you i did this but it keeps happening everytime i load calibre withe ereader attached

That means something else is going on. It is unlikely that calibre is actually causing the problem. Something else is triggering it.

Thing I can think of are:

Not safely ejecting the device.
Internal storage is failing
Windows not mounting the device properly. You will get an error if it is mounted read-only.
An older version of KSM interfered with the connection and meant the database kept getting corrupted.
Something else accessing the database at the same time. Don't run calibre and the Kobo desktop application at the same time. And it is possible that an anti-virus/malware app could block calibre from accessing the device.
Anything scanning the device at the time calibre attempts to access it could cause issues. You could try plugging the device in without calibre running and waiting a few minutes to let it settle and then starting calibre.

Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head. There are probably others.

Also, there is some information missing from your report. It is always a good idea to mention which device you have, the firmware version it is running and the version of calibre. There may be something specific about the combination that is causing the problem. For example, if you have a Glo, the internal SD card in these seem to be failing more than other devices. Replacing the card has saved a lot of these devices.

You might try using the Windows tool to scan and repair the device.
