No it's because it's a well known quirk of the kepub renderer. If you want to stick with kepubs you need to increase the line spacing a bit.

Another option is to change to reading standard epubs instead. The Adobe renderer used for epubs doesn't have this problem.

Hi Jackie.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't want to forgo the advantages of Kepub, so I'll see if increasing the line spacing by one step does the trick. I have the "My 24 line spacing values" patch enabled.

Yup, that would be what's causing your problem,, the custom line spaceing values allow reducing line space to less than what Kepub reader can support. (about 1.2, or 120% line height)

rashkae,

I'm not following. 1.2 or 120% isn't "reducing line space". It's increasing it. 120% is bigger than 100%.

Which is the point. If you go below a certain threshold, ascenders risk getting chopped off at the top, and descenders risk getting chopped off at the bottom.

As the actual effective line-height depends on font metrics, we don't have a magic value for you. Just play with font sizes & line-height until you've found something that works for you. And, yeah, that'll involve *increasing* line-height.

@rashkae was taking about the *stock* behavior as an example of why you're running into trouble with custom values (1.2em is a common standard for line-height, and it can even look decent for font with tight metrics).

Really 120% is sort of 100% because it's a sensible minimum for most fonts.
