external card slot

I thought I would separate this to a thread on it's own in case someone has a mod for this.
Although 32Gb is probably enough for most people. What if you bought the lesser storage model and realized it wasn't enough. It would be great to mod the new kobo's to have an external card slot.

So my idea, attach an empty micro sd adapter slot to the existing micro usb memory. Now I don't know if you can just attach two 8Gb sd cards and get 16Gb's out of it, or attach a 32Gb to the 8Gb and get 40Gb's. Maybe you can, I've never done it.
Maybe this hub solution will give some ideas https://petapixel.com/2017/10/03/put...d-card-hub-50/

But at least then we'd have a slot to insert extra memory cards and books on our new kobos. This would of course require us to open up the kobo and void the warranty.
But the idea is to cut a hole in the side so we can install one of these https://www.digikey.ca/product-detai...SABEgJSlvD_BwE for the addition of extra memory cards.

I'm not sure if the standard Linux kernel on the Kobo supports acting as a host for USB devices, or even if the hardware supports it.

The Kindle PW3 has Host support, but only for a USB audio client device. Works via a generic micro USB to USB A host dumb adaptor.

I've never heard of any Kobo model being other than a USB client.

I think the whole USB support has come up when people have tried connecting keyboards to their Kobos.

I think you'd have more luck telling Kobo you want the SD Card slot back over trying to macguyver something together

/me examines chocolate, ballpoint pen, tights, pencil, bottle tops, Swiss army knife, string, chewing gum and decides to leave Kobo as it is but repairs the Sopwith Camel.

I too have tried both USB and BT keyboards on EVERTHING. Works on all my android phones, android tablet, windows tablet, all laptops, netbooks, PCs and one of two TVs. Not on Sony, Binatone, Amazon, Barnes& Noble, iRiver or Kobo ereaders.

An ancient Android phone works with hub to connect HDD, mouse, keyboard, USB ethernet port. It also has a micro HDMI port. Same age as an iPhone 4s but unlike it still installs apps. Makes a really rubbish "PC" due to poor copy/paste, external storage and printing support in most Android apps. One app can print, really slowly. Needed 3rd party filemanager. Only one application open at a time. Android is OK for a notepad, calendar, email, web, MP3 player, camera. Rubbish as a complete OS for real content creation compared even to Win 3.0 even with a 17" 1920 x1080 screen, keyboard, mouse and HDD. My newest Android phone is worse. No physical HDMI and screencast is garbage. Some older apps can't access SD card at all on newer Android. Still forgets language/layout of keyboard (USA is default Android).
