Faint Text Shadow after Waking

When waking from sleep mode after several hours, I can see a faint shadow of text behind the text I'm reading. Putting it back in sleep mode and waking immediately gets rid of it. Is this normal? I've had the Clara HD for about 9 months and only noticed it in the last 3, although I can't swear it wasn't there from the beginning.

Pretty sure I've noticed that too, depending on what the sleep image is on the screen, after a long time in sleep mode.

I've had problems with the battery running out in sleep mode / with the sleep cover, so I've gone back to having it power down after an hour. Powering up from "off" forces a screen reset. I've never seen it in that case.

Perfectly normal ghosting. That's how the eInk tech works.

You might not have noticed before because it depends to a large extent on exactly what's shown on screen before & after, and to another large extent on ambient temperature.

Besides putting it to sleep, you can also force a refresh; bring up the bottom menu and dismiss it.

A quick double-tap in the middle of the screen usually achieves that in an easy to remember gesture .

I just page forward or backwards and it clears it right up.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, and it's a relief to know the unit is not defective.
