Kobo N647 Not Recognised by Any PC & Unable to Use Wifi
Good Morning All,
I bought a Kobo N647 2nd hand yesterday but it's not recognised by my PC when I tried to connect it with the USB cable. I tried using different cables and different computers but of no avail. I also tried using devmgmt.msc by typing in Windows button + R but still unable to connect the device to my PC. I have an SD card inserted into the device but it doesn't recognise any of the content on the card. I also tried to log onto the online store using WiFi but keeps getting an network error message despite the signal was indicated as strong on the device. I would buy a new one if I have to but I would very much love to resurrect this device as I hate E-waste which is why I buy a 2nd hand in the 1st place. Its condition is new and looks hardly ever used. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, I would very love to hear from you. Many thanks in advance for your assistance. |

All that probably means that the USB port on the device is damaged in a such a way that the power connects but the data lines aren't. There is a chance that it is a software problem on the device. If that is the case, then doing a factory reset might fix it, or restoring an image to the internal SD card could. I probably woudn't jump into doing the factory reset as if it doesn't fix the connection to the PC problem, you won't be able to do the setup and use it at all. You could take an image of the internal card first and then try the factory reset.
As to the external SD card not being recognised, what size did you try? These were built at a time when a 2GB micro SD card was big. They should work with a 4GB or 8GB card, but, I wouldn't be sure about a 16GB card. And larger cards are very unlikely to work. The card also needs to be formatted as FAT32. Note: I answered in the thread you posted in before noticing this. It would be more sensible for this to be a separate thread. If you post in the wrong place, ask a mod to move the post. |

Kobo N647 Not Recognised by Any PC & Unable to Use Wifi
Hi David,
Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've done a factory reset before I took an image of the internal SD card first. I'm unable to set up at all as you've mentioned, does that mean this Ereader is now an E-waste and I'll be better off buying a new one or buying a 2nd hand one that works? I just hate buying new electronics when I know there are so many out there that works and people just throw them out because they're no longer fashionable and end up somewhere in Ghana ..... I'll try using a 8Gb SD card instead as I have a 32Gb in at the moment. Many thanks again for your help **I've asked the mod to move this to a new thread, many thanks for your suggestion ![]() ![]() |
