Oasis 3 versus Voyage ?
I currently have a Voyage.
Am considering upgrading to the Oasis 3, for the waterproofing, larger screen, warm lights, screen inversion, more even lighting (more LEDs). Questions for thise who currently have both — 1) many who’ve compared in the past indicate the Voyage has better contrast than older Oasis models. Is that still the case with the latest model? 2) even if true (from a screen perspecrive), does the more even lighting and option for warm lighting offset that difference? Thanks, Gregg |

So I made the same jump. Voyage to Oasis 3.
I am aware of everyone's love of the contrast of the Voyage, unfortunately I traded it in and had to send it back before the new device arrived so I can't compare them side by side, but I will say that the contrast of the Oasis 3 does not immediately jump out at me in any way. Someone else would have to compare in person to say if it was better/worse and by how much, but I certainly find no problems with it. As to the lighting, the Oasis 3 is far more uniform, it's the most uniform lighting I've seen. My Voyage had a pretty harsh gradient from top to bottom (as you got closer to the lights) and there were minor light cones on the bottom. This gradient never bothered me as it was subtle as you read down the page, but it was completely obvious if you just glanced over the screen looking for it. The Oasis 3 is not 100% uniform as I can nitpick and detect a few spots that appear ever so slightly darker here and there, but only in a dark room with the lights turned up. I also thought I'd probably end up just using the inverted mode, so I wasn't sure about the warm light and almost just got a discounted KOA2, but I'm glad I went for the 3. I actually keep the warm light on about 12 at all times as it makes the screen look so much more like actual paper. Now when I turn the warm light off, it reveals just how cool/blue/white the normal lights actually are, it's kinda crazy. Feel free to write this off as someone still smitten with their brand new toy, but all those things, plus the larger screen is an absolute win for me. I loved my Voyage and easily could've still used it without issue, I had previously tried to upgrade to the Oasis 1 and hated it (mostly screen lighting issues), but this time the upgrade was well worth it. |

I didn't trade in my Voyage, but I did trade in an old keyboard for the discount, so I will be able to compare the Voyage with the O3, once I receive it and compare.

That said, with custom fonts and the bolding slider I find the contrast on my Oasis 2 perfectly adequate. |

I'm a believer in backups and suggest buying a cheap older Kindle and use that as a trade-in for the Oasis and KEEP your Voyage as a backup. Even a broken kindle will net you $5 plus 25% off. As to 2 or 3, if you don't read at night or need the cellular one, then 2 is probably going to do you fine. I don't know if Oasis2 cellular is 3G or 4G, but I know Oasis 3 uses 4G.

I would be very interested to hear how the Oasis3 feels compared to the Voyage in terms of weight and balance. While the O3 is 0.3 oz heavier, does it feel the same or lighter given the ergonomic design?
Comments on screen clarity/contrast and evenness of lighting also very welcome. Thank you! |

I have both. I choose to upgrade.
The Oasis 3 is faster, larger, and the screen is better. Even when the "warm light" is set to 0, the screen is warmer on the Oasis. Side by side, the Voyage's screen looks blue. And for reading in dim light, the Oasis is way better. |

The picture is lightly out of focus, sorry. The screens are much crisper IRL.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciate everyone who has commented! The pictures above seem fairly similar, although the Oasis looks slightly warmer than the Voyage (at least less blue), even without the new warm lights turned on. Also, maybe a bit more consistent? (Eg: the bottom section where the chapter info is, the pic on the right seems like it has less variation, although maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me)
Lots of good feedback here, I think i will be pulling the trigger. Ill keep the Voyage, pass it on in the family, snd trade in a much older kindle. |

That's a good idea to hang on to your Voyage. Many have regretted trading theirs in. Also you can replace the battery on a Voyage and cannot on Oasis 2 and 3. I have an Oasis 2 and won't be trading up for the Oasis 3. I don't need the color changing lights so there isn't much point. I'll wait for the next revision. Whatever that may be. If my Oasis battery fails or something happens to it, then I'll probably get another Oasis 2 on sale. At least my covers will work.
