Touch HD 3
After 10 years of various Kindles I've replaced my Voyage with a Touch HD 3. Overall I prefer it, my findings...
I chose a non-Kindle as they don't currently make a 6" screen with page turn buttons. I prefer Amazon's Bookerly to any of the pre-installed PocketBook fonts. So I installed lots of different fonts (including Bookerly) and settled on Google's Literata. This isn't an easy option for Kindles. I'd always wanted to replace the default Kindle power off image with one of my kids but couldn't. I've easily done that on the PocketBook. The Voyage body had a more premium look and feel (glass fronted), but I prefer that the HD4 is lighter. I'd prefer my books to be left aligned (rag right), not fully justified. This setting comes from the individual book on Kindle/PocketBook. Anyone know how to override this setting on the PocketBook? I'd prefer not to have to edit every book. I've tried changing the css files in system but it doesn't seem to have make any difference. I read a lot of Manga on the Voyage, and had to convert most of it using Kindle Comic Converter which is time consuming. No conversion is required on PocketBook after installing PBimageViewer. ![]() My main disappointment is the HD3 light. It gives me a headache whenever I use it. I'm very sensitive to PWM type issues, but haven't had any light problems with the Kindle Paperwhite/Voyage/Oasis. Anyone else get headaches with PocketBook lights? Or have any suggestions for a fix (there's advanced settings but I don't know how to use them)? I've tried different frontlight and smartlight settings but none are comfortable for me. There's lots of similar complaints about the Kobo Forma. I tried slow motion videos which highlight that the Forma has PWM issues but the HD3 looks fine with this test. So overall happy, but I'll keep using a Kindle Oasis for night time reading. |

Not sure if it could help with your PWM but, on the HD3, I*use CoolReader instead of the default reader, with an inverted screen setting :*written white on black background. I*find it a lot more relaxing, especially at night. CoolReader also allows to change the justification and to disable the css of the book.

Thanks, I'll try that.
I think changing to a font that's easier for my eyes has alleviated it to a degree too. |
