Lightbulb Author Pseudonym management

I'd like to see an integrated pseudonym management function in Calibre.

By either linking two author names or editing an author's profile, an official pseudonym would be created. From then on, whenever that author's name is displayed, the pseudonym would automatically be shown.
E.g. M. V. Stott {AKA: David Bussell}

In addition, the metadata searches could cross-reference both names. So I wouldn't need to know under which pseudonym the book was associated on any particular website.

The Job Spy plugin (don't be fooled by its name) has a tool to assist with pseudonyms.

The Entities Manager can be used to create more complex relationships between entities of the same or different types.

Any questions/issues regarding a plugin should be posted in the relevant thread in the Plugins subforum, there's an Index of plugins in the sub-forum's stickies

Added: And a search of this subforum for 'pseudonym' will find a number of threads where this topic has been previously discussed.

Thankfully, Calibre is open sourced AND anybody is welcome to write plugins for it. I think that is a great idea and would love to see you implement it. Let us know when we can test it...

There already is most of that available, simply decide on what canonical form you want the uthor name to be. Then create author transform rules in Preferences->metadata download to tell calibre to automatically convert the variants to your preferred form.

You can also have these rules aply to the existing library and when adding books.

This could be useful for an author who only used a single pseudonym for all their output but quite a few of my pseudonym using authors either use multiple pseudonyms and/or also publish books under their real name. Henry Kuttner comes to mind as one horrible example -- his pseudonyms had pseudonyms. Not to mention adding Isaak Ozimov as a real name? Very few would know whom it was. Ditto for Carolyn Cherry? Without an internet search, how many people will know whom this multiple award winning author was? Gentle hint: the genre was not romance.
