Onyx Boox Android Version

Hey

Is there any information available if Onyx plans to update their products to a newer version of Android? The fact that the Boox Note Pro only has Android 6 is the one thing keeping me from ordering one right now. I'm currently also looking into the Likebook Alita which is supposed to be upgraded to Android 8 this autumn. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information about any Android upgrade for the Onyx Boox. If anyone knows more I'd appreciate.

Supposedly right now the highest version of Android that natively supports e-ink is Android 6. If the Alita is getting Android 8 then maybe Likebook figured out how to hack Android 8 to interface with the screen.

It was always possible but someone had to do the work. I wonder if it'll be picked up by other manufacturers soon.

As far as i understood, the idea is that since 2018, vendors can use open source 'lite' android but in order to obtain a GMS licence (search engine, play store and youtube) devices must pass a 'multimedia' hardware test

people behind Kingrow K1 indiegogo campaign have said to have asked for a licence but i doubt they will obtain it.

knowing how onyx usually works, no, I wouldn't count with an update to Android 8.

I expect them to drop totally the support of the actual lineup of devices when they announce a new one, as they always have done and those will probably have 8 or 9
