PRS-505
Hello everyone!
I am very interested in purchasing an ebook reader but I have a few questions. I have searched the forums and it has been very helpful in the learning process needed to make an accurate decision on which device will work best for me. I mainly read novels and I already have a large collection of ebooks but they are almost all in PDF format. I am wondering if the PRS-505 would work ok for this (with the latest firmware). The novels that I have do not have any pictures or digarams or graphs or anything complicated like that. I have read a lot of different opinions on PDF viewing on this forum but I am still a little undecided. If all I wanted to do was read PDF format novels from my current collection will the prs-505 be a good choice? Thank you very much for the help in advanced!! ![]() One final question. How hard is it to change a PDF format into another format the PRS-505 would be able to handle better if a PDF novel was not readable? |

No device reads pdfs perfectly (expect maybe the 10" iRex) but the Sony reflow handles it better than the other devices.
I read a lot of pdfs downloaded from my local library and find it sufficient as a reading format. There are some quirks. Sometimes the reflow will seperate a sentence and make it look like it is part of separate paragraphs. Also, the Sony does not reflow the page numbers. A single pdf page may equate to two pages on the Reader, both pages will have the same page number and the 2nd page may only have 1 or 2 lines of text. If you are in an area where you can hold and play with a Sony, copy a few pdfs onto a SD card and try to open them on the device and see if the reflow formatting is something you could live with. |
