Aura How to ascertain correct version of FW?

My brother just received a Kobo Aura as gift, running on FW 4.15.12920. We need to apply the patches on it. It's Model no. is N 236. Which FW version should I use, Mark 6 or Mark 7?

Please advise.

The Aura Edition 2 was updated in late 2017 with a hardware refresh. The CPU has been updated to the i.MX 6SLL. Externally, the two versions are identical. The serial number number can be used to tell them apart. If the 7th digit of the serial number is a "2" it is the second version, otherwise it is the first version.

EDIT: Why is this not posted in the regular Kobo forum ?

The patches are hardware agnostic. The only time the hardware version comes in is when manually installing the firmware -- in your case, the 7th digit of your brother's serial number is 0 so you have the first version of the Aura Edition 2 so it's a Mark 6 device.
