Calibre has stopped opening my PDF Reader

I have a large number of books in pdf format.
I used to use Adobe Acrobat and when I clicked on a pdf book Calibre would open it in Acrobat.

I am now using Foxitpro as my default pdf reader and now when I double click a pdf file in Calibre I get a message saying, "The <Book Name> has no available formats."

I have tried going to 'Behaviour' and checking the box for Calibre to open pdf files in the Reader Pane, but that doesn't work either.

I am using Calibre V 3.44.0 and Windows 10.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

foxitpro has to be registered (commonly referred to as 'associate with') with Windows as the STSTEMS PDF viewer.

All Calibre does is 'ask the system' what to use for PDF. It sounds like you uninstalled Adobe, so the system has no registered PDF viewer.

Easy test: Find a PDF file in explorer: Double-click it. If a viewer opens up with the file displayed-Windows has that program registered to open PDF's and then I don't know why Calibre is having problems
If it fails. you need to cure the associate problem. Right-click any PDF: Properties: Set the Open With and tick the 'always use' box

Hi theducks

Thanks for coming back.

Yes, Foxitpro is the default pdf app.

I have now found that some pdf's do open in Calibre. As we know pdf's are a variable thing of many layers. (So I have read in the Calibre manual.)

I think it must be a Foxitpro issue.

Again, thanks.

Reinstalling Foxitpro seems to have worked on the files I have tested.
Thanks your post redirected me to Foxitpro.

Something went rogue and messed with something foxit needed, but you cured it.
You might ponder as to WHAT, so it might not happen again

some common culprits:
'Cleaner' utilities, remove not 'unused' files (that were really part of something bigger) DID YOU recently run one? Oops!

a poorly crafted installer/updater that replaces newer files with older-buggier versions when doing something you wanted (this was not deliberate like the next one) Again Did you install or Update (IMHO this is a good reason to launch all updates manually. You now KNOW that a update was just done and is a suspect.

Malware/Adware nuff said

Anti-Virus, Malware scan/cleanup that went overboard (has happened)

Chuckles - I do ponder - Microsoft gives me plenty of cause for that.

Thanks for taking the time to come back. It's appreciated.

Cleaners and antivirus apps. get nowhere near my data drive except when saving data there and when files are opened.

I think it was most likely a faulty Install *.exe.

I put my money on a sync app having a bad moment.

Cheers
