New Kindle Unlimited promo (thru 6/30/2019)

Kindle Unlimited promo. Two months for 99 cents. Sign up by May 31, 2019.

The promo page (see link below) explicitly says this is not for existing members. I contacted Amazon via chat and asked if previous members (but are no longer current/existing members) qualify for the promo. They said "no", previous members do not qualify.

However, if you have never used Kindle Unlimited before, this is a good deal. Just remember to cancel before your two months is up, or they will start billing you $9.99 per month after two months. I have used one of these KU promos in the past (which is why I am not eligible for this current promo). They used to be for three months, now they're evidently down to two months. Signup is easy, as is canceling. I canceled a few days prior to the actual expiration date to be on the safe side, but noted that the promo membership automatically lasted through the end of the original promo period. So canceling early does not terminate your promo early (at least not when we're talking "a few days" early). Canceling is easy. All done online through your Amazon account - very simple. Amazon sends you an email confirming your cancellation, and this is nice because you have proof of cancellation in case some erroneous billing issue arises after the fact.

You need an Amazon account to sign up for this promo. I don't know if that means "Amazon Prime" or just a regular Amazon customer account. It probably means the latter, but I can't vouch for that.

FWIW, my KU subscription ended on March 30 and it let me get the deal. I see a charge of $1.06 (which includes tax). So, do check if you've quit KU even recently. You can always call Amazon BEFORE SELECTING A BOOK and cry Oops. Now I can listen to the rest of the 87th Precinct series!

I actually used the KU promo twice. The second time I signed up (one month after the first promo ended) I just went in and clicked enroll. I had no reason to think it wouldn't work or that I was not eligible. And it did work. That second promo ended for me about 1-1/2 months ago. Now comes this third promo. Even though there was nothing written that excluded previous members, it did say that it was not for existing members. So I decided to chat with Amazon to ask about my eligibility, if for no other reason than to prove my honesty to some members here who are prone to questioning things like that.

Note that in the past, I had tried Amazon's Music Unlimited on a trial basis once. Then after that had expired, I bought a new Echo Dot, and subsequently received a personal email from Amazon inviting me to try Music Unlimited for free again. I went and signed up. And they charged me the full amount. When I called to question them on that, they said, "Oh, you aren't eligible". Then I asked why they sent me a personal invite if I wasn't eligible. I had simply clicked on the link in the email they sent to enroll. They had no answer for that, but continued insinuating that I was trying to cheat them. Finally, they did take the charge off of my account and disabled the Music Unlimited. Along with warning me that this was a "special deal" that they were doing for me as a courtesy. What a load of crap - I was simply responding to an offer that THEY had sent me in email. An offer that seemed perfectly valid and legit, seeing as how I had just bought a new Echo (two, actually). I wrote about this exchange with Amazon in another thread here on the forums somewhere.

After reading about Amazon's banning of accounts in the past, I don't want to get on their "abuser list". Evidently I'm already halfway there already, since I attempted to make use of a personal offer that they sent me. Silly me for believing and trusting them when they sent that email inviting me.

I'm afraid that with Amazon, "testing it to see if it works" might well get you banned. You could be an abuser in their eyes. Even if the link works for you. Amazon is not the company they used to be. Reportedly, with their account banning, they won't even tell you why you were banned. You just were. Tough.

Never noticed the series, so went and looked it up. When I saw that the narrator was Dick Hill, I immediately borrowed book 1! I love Dick Hill! One of my top three narrators!

(My other favorites are R.C. Bray and Ray Porter).

For those of you who are interested in what KU books you can listen to . . . I couldn't find a webpage at Amazon with that information, but I contacted customer support and they quickly responded. They gave me this webpage.

Unfortunately, I think that I read that there are about 4,000 ebooks with narration, and there seems to be no way to sort them by genre/subgenre/subject except into one of five of those, given near the top of the page. I don't know that I want to look through all of the titles of even one of those genres/subgenres/subjects, in order to find ones that I might like.
