Non-ADE downloads/Kobo app

Working with ADE to get books from kobo library to my KA1 is pretty much a non-starter...even after trying different versions of ADE.

Are there options other than ADE to get my kobo library books to my KA1? And, if so, what are they?

I seem to recall there is a reason to stay away from the kobo app? Is the kobo app viable?

Thanks.

Thanks.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question but if you're buying a book from the Kobo store you have four options:
  1. get it delivered direct to your Kobo via wi-fi. The book will be a kepub (probably with Kobo DRM). ADE not required.
  2. open Kobo Desktop on a PC (or Mac ???), make sure the new book is in the library, then connect your Kobo. Don't have calibre open at the same time. The new book will be transferred automatically. It will be a kepub (probably with Kobo DRM). ADE not required.
  3. open Kobo.com in your browser and login. You will have an option to download the new book as standard epub. This is where you would need ADE if it's a DRM'd epub. Sorry to be a bit vague here but it's not an option I use myself.
  4. open Kobo Desktop on a PC (or Mac ???), make sure the new book has arrived in the library. Close Kobo Desktop. Then open calibre and use one of Apprentice Alf's tools (not the Amazon/Adobe one) to transfer the new book from the Kobo Desktop library into calibre, removing any Kobo DRM in the process. ADE not required.

Which method are you trying to use?

Jacki, thank you for responding.

I've been downloading the ebooks from kobo.com library using ADE, but it has become problematic for some reason (using different versions).

I'm interested in the Apprentice Alf's tools. Can you provide more details on how I might get started with that? (I already use Calibre sometimes.)

Mobileread doesn't allow detailed discussion about Alf's tools but if you google Apprentice Alf it should be the top item (avoid any item with epubor in the url). Start at the beginning and keep reading You can ask detailed questions at that site if you need to.

If you're buying from Kobo it's Alf's tool named OBOK you'll need.
