My shelves

I started creating shelves to organize all my books by tags in Calibre and now Im just wondering if the only way to get it to sort them is if I have to delete all the books already on my kobo and then re-download them all back onto it for this effect to take change?

Do you have the Kobo Extended Plugins installed?
It takes the 2nd times to be connected to show the collection for a newly added book. It should find the existing ones IF the show as ON DEVICE in Calibre

I believe it's installed, though it's been plugged in and ejected a few times already but the collections haven't been updated on my reader.

double check the configuration. Kobo Utilities, Pay attention to:
Profiles: Any or it must match devices
Devices must be ticked
AND you must configure the Driver : Extended edition: Collections tab (ticks, and columns)

You list a Kobo Vox as your device. This isn't supported by the Kobo related plugins. It will be treated as an Android device. For collections to be created, you need a Kobo e-ink ereader, a Touch or later.

And if this doesn't work, then run calibre in debug mode and post or PM me a debug log showing the connection and jobs being run.

Kobo Vox was my old ereader and a fine one it was. May it rest in pieces.
I am using a Kobo Clara now and trying to follow both suggestions.
