Add Published Date to OPDS?

Dear Kovid,

Newest in the OPDS means "add to Calibre" date. Is it possible to add "Published Date" there? Some books are updated with new chapter/part while the "add to Calibre" date should stay unchanged.

as far as I remember, published date is already present in OPDS feeds. Not at my computer right now so cant check.

No it isn't. By Publisher is available though.

I'm confused are you asking for a new sub category? Because individual book entries most definitely have a published date entry, as a DC date element.

Existing OPDS has the following entries:

By Newest 
By Title
By Authors
By Languages
By Publisher
By Rating
By Read
By Series
By Tags

I'm not sure if I can toggle one or more of these, which would be great, but I definitely would like to to have "By Published Date" here.

Cant really have by published date, it's not a category, every book could potentially have a unique published date.

Would it be possible to add top level entries for the ff?
By Published Date (newest first)
By Published Date (oldest first)

Just as separate sorting options similar to how "By Newest" works.

Actually, would Calibre be able to use date custom columns for this? I have "Last Updated" (when the author updated the story) and "Last Modified" (when the story was updated in Calibre) custom columns (FanFicFare) that I'd love to be able to sort with on OPDS.
