32bit vs 64 bit
So I have upgraded to a newer faster cooler computer. Win7 to Win 10. Files moved across, Calibre seems to work fine.
I installed Calibre 32 bit on the new system, mostly to match what was on the old system and to have one less variable in the move. Now the question is should I download the 64bit and install (presumably over the 32bit) Are the advantages important enough to go through the effort?? thnx, . Assuming you installed 32 bit in its default location, Program Files (x86)\Calibre2, it would be better to install the 64 bit in its default location, Program Files\Calibre2. You can remove the 32 bit via the Control panel->Programs and Features applet, before or after installing the 64 bit. The 32 bit and 64 bit will use the same configuration data and 'see' the same libraries. The main functional difference is that the 64 bit can make use of any extra memory available on 64 bit systems, which can be relevant in converting large/complex books. BR |
