Are Downloads from the Following Website Legal?
The website is: <url removed by moderator>.
There is a specific book on that Site that I'm interested in. (I'm not interested in the book, personally, but I'd like to post the book and link to the book for the benefit of interested people who follow the "Non-Fiction" thread in the "Deals and Resources subforum). I am basically technically-challenged, and a computer-phobe. However, I am aware that there are sites which will offer people downloads of ebooks that they legally should not be offering (the books are still in copyright, and the site has not gained the permission of the copyright owner to copy the book, much less offer the book for download to anyone who wants it; maybe there are other issues, too). This won't make any difference as to whether or not it's legal to download the book from the Site, but if anyone is curious, the book is published currently by a university press and retails for $55 (I've forgotten now whether that is for a hardcover or paperback, and I don't see any point in checking that right now). Would someone "in the know" educate me about the--I suppose the word would be "legitimacy"--of this Site? Or, if you don't know anything about the Site, would you be willing to vet it for me and (mainly) for fother MobileReaders? Last edited by DiapDealer; 04-27-2019 at 11:03 AM. Reason: url removed |

I visited the site, and it said "4plebs is a community run archive of 4chan.org", so my inclination is to say no.

No. It's not legit. Dirt cheap or free downloads of in-copyright books whose print versions command prices over $50 should have been a dead giveaway. If it seems too good to be true, then it more than likely isn't legit. No computer skills required. The links to it are being removed from previous posts in this thread. The thread is also being closed to prevent further comment. In the future, please find a way to check on the legitimacy of questionable sites without posting direct, clickable links to potential pirate websites.
