Moving TOC in Sigil
How can I move my TOC in Sigil?
It is placed right at the beginning before the title. I need it to come after the front matter such as title, disclaimer, acknowledgements but and worried about messing up the code. I am not code savvy enough to do this in code view so, using book view, could I place the mouse curser where I want the TOC to appear and paste the already exiting TOC from the beginning to where I want it? |

I just drag'n'drop the toc, or any other file, in the Book Browser window.

fix image
Assuming the ToC is in a separate file, just drag the file (with the mouse), to where you want it in the Book Browser and Sigil will sort out the rest, e.g.
Oh you will have to add the appropriate Semantic tag if not done already. BR |

I have now set the title page and other front matter headings in Heading 1, so at least they show up in the TOC and before the chapters. But it might still be good to have the TOC after the front matter. |

You do know the difference between an inline toc and a html-toc? (You can create both with Sigil.)

No, I don't know the difference. Plus I only know how to create a TOC via Tools>Table of contents>Generate Table of contents and Tools>Table of contents>Create HTML Table of Contents Is the 'Create HTML Table of Contents' option under Tools the HTML-toc you mean? If so, I can do that but not place it where I want it. Do 'Inline TOC' mean you can place it inline of where you want it? Does one use more bytes than the other? I am not far going over 3MB on the Mobi version (so far no cover, but has 29 images and a logo and I have still to add an image I forgot). So, if one TOC keeps me under 3MB and the other takes me over then I will have to use that as a decider. Also, I hear conflicting info re Amazon Kindle and whether the book cover is included in the delivery cost to author. One belief is that as when creating the Kindle, we are instructed not to put a cover in, that the cover is a separate upload to the mobi file. Does this mean the cover is not part of the delivery charge? Last edited by LittleMissS; 04-18-2019 at 08:43 AM. Reason: a PS |

"How do I move the html toc?" is a Sigil question.
"What are the different tocs?" is not. I'm afraid you're going to need to become a little more familiar with how EPUBs are constructed in general before you can successfully use Sigil (an EPUB editor) and a third-party plugin to create Kindlebooks. |

Damn waiting until I lean more; my deadline is today!! I will have to go with the Mobi I will have in a few mins. I can always upload another version at a later date. It is only the TOC that isn't as I'd ideally like it. Thanks. |

It is NOT a (inline)TOC unless it has the semantics set properly
You can not set more than 1 semantics per file. Thus, the file must be separate. Sigil makes following the rules, easy. If you use its tools to make the Cover, TOC, you get valid code. Drag and drop, allows you to change the arrangement. Spell check will only verify that the word has bee spelled correctly, not that is the correct word. ![]() |

We help where we can, but that doesn't mean you get to bypass the learning process. Why does someone who doesn't know how to create an ebook have a deadline to create one in the first place? In the future, please try to keep mobi/kindle stuff in the mobi/kindle forums (except where it applies to Doitsu's Kindlegen Sigil plugin, of course), the general epub stuff in the epub format forum, and save the Sigil-specific stuff for this forum. The mere fact that you're using Sigil to do something doesn't mean it's a topic for the Sigil forum. |

Always a mistake. Take a deep breath, cancel the launch party, cancel the pre-order, and learn how to build your book. You're already far ahead of the average newbie, because you have Sigil at your disposal. Divide your book into chapters and use the Tools > Table of Contents option on the top menu line to build an html (actual) and "logical" (virtual) TOC. Further, I would put that html TOC immediately following the table of contents, while pushing all that other throat-clearing stuff to the back of the book. This will greatly improve the presentation of your book on the most important place, the Look Inside sample on the Amazon storefront. If you TOC has an H1 heading, so should every chapter or other major section. |
