I'd like to say that these days calibre makes me totally sick! Like with every new version I updated to 3.47.1 (64 Bit, Windows 😎 and since then one problem after another: I wanted to add some books to my collectio..... CRASH! Okay, restart didn't work, so uninstall and new install of the program.... repair tool was soooooooooooo slow. After about 16 hours (!) just about 17 % were done - next crash! No chance for repair! So created a new folder to add all the former folders by "adding". But not in once but in packs of about 100 different writers. Well, only 2231 books I had added - next crash! Once again uninstall and install again neccessary, repair tool runs for another 1,5 hours - and after that now I only have 1858 books left. Where is the rest? And how could I find out what's gone? I am absolutely not happy anymore and would appreciate support to find all that missing stuff - before I add more!

First of all
3.47.1 is well behaved on Windows (with way larger libraries) so there is something about YOUR system that is not right or breaks general Calibre use guidelines: 1)Calibre does not do well on a NAS or network share (see the FAQ's) 2)Your Anti Virus is interfering with file creation. 3)Cloud backup software needs to be paused (for the Library folder at the minimum) at least during add/update metadata operations. It can lock folders in the middle of transactions. (Calibre does things in steps: transactions. Timing can't be disturbed, the reason NAS is hazardous to your data) |

Well, as I am running Calibre on this Windows with same Antivirus, Firewall and other configurations without any problems and all the trouble started with the update to 3.47.1 - maybe this makes you understanding my question.
And: The "little" number is what I did so far with starting a new library (as nothing else worked). It will be a horrible load of work to enter all the 140.000+ books But: I am still missing an answer, where the 500 books have gone between the crash (before 2231) and the repair (after 1858). This logic seems simply confusing for me. Never had this during the last 15 years of calibre |

What does crash mean - BSOD ?
Please post details of any Windows or calibre error message. Have you checked the disk for errors - with SMART, chkdsk etc? What led you to try doing a database restore, and recreate your library? Don't you have a backup of that 140K book library - tsk, tsk? If you're convinced its specific to 3.47.1 you could revert to 3.46, Previous calibre releases BR |

Well, for sure I used chkdsk to find out if anything is wrong with the HD.
And it even gets better! When I went to bed, everything seemed to be running fine. So new day, next step of work. But when I want to open calibre, new error message appears: "Unable to find ucrtbase.dll. You should install all Windows updates on your computer to get this file. (Error Code: 1114)" What's this? First of all I give it a try with a downgrade and hope for luck.... |

I Googled Error Code 1114, first cab off the rank was ==>> How To Fix (Error 1114) ?
I wouldn't anticipate installing an older calibre will fix that, but no harm trying. |

Downgrade so far seems to be a good idea! With 3.47 allready opening one epub crushed the program. That means that Windows told me "THe program doesn't react anymore - Should we close the program or wait for reaction!"
I waited for reaction - and waited, waited, waited... so I had no choice than to close the program. But a restart wasn't possible without repair.... Since the downgrade it seems to run much better. But how far, I might see in a couple of months when all the old books are added to the new library |

you have corrupt / missing system files - that's what the error code is telling you - and the link also, if you click and read it ..
not calibre's fault and not something calibre can fix for you/ try system file checker, then consider a complete clean re-install of windows ( because surely you have a backup of the precious library ? ) from a command prompt: The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed ... 1114 error may be caused by windows system files damage. The corrupted windows system files entries can be a real threat to the well being of your computer. There can be many events which may have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. All the above actives may result in the deletion or corruption of the entries in the windows registry. This corrupted registry will lead to the missing and wrongly linked information and files needed for the proper working of the application. |
