A few sideloaded books keep coming to the top of library
I have a weird issue. I have a decent sized kindle library with plenty of sideloaded books. When I turn on the Wi-Fi, and Amazon updates any new purchased or rented books, after these books the device bumps a particular group of sideloaded books to the first and second page of my e-reader library, saying they are "new". The same thing happens when I haven't purchased a new book, these books are again pushed to the front and say "new". They are older books and I'm not planning to read them anytime soon, so it keeps messing up the order of the newer books I'm acquiring. Anyone have any ideas about it? These books haven't been updated at all, so not sure why my kindle keeps recycling them as "new" everytime Wi-Fi gets turned on.

Do you do collections? Put them into collections...

Thanks for responding, but I don't only view by Collections, so I'm afraid this wouldn't solve this particular problem for me.

Hm. I will try that and see if it fixes the issue, Jim, thanks.

This is only a guess...is the date set right on your Kindle? If the date is wrong, maybe it the Kindle is seeing the sideloaded books as the latest books that were sent over to your Kindle based on their datestamp.

Agreed. To set the date, simply enable WiFi and allow the Kindle to connect to Amazon's servers.

Right, there is no way to set the system date directly in Settings, only time of day.
It should not be necessary to register to get the date to reset, as I believe secure connection needed for registration requires the dates to match up as a prerequisite. For example, when my (sadly neglected) Kindle 1’s battery drains it forgets the time and date, but just having it connect to cellular network fixes that even though it can no longer connect to Amazon for some reason (I’m guessing the contract was not renewed). |

![]() I don't believe these were the last books sideloaded, but it's been awhile so that may be a possibility. I haven't had a chance to mess with this further at home yet since making this thread, will mess with it a bit tonight if I have a chance. |

If you connect the kindle to a computer, do those files show a date in the future? |

The date on my computer is correct. Other sideloaded books (from the same computer) are not doing this.
I will double check on the second thing you are asking when I get home -- if I can figure out how. I don't understand how/why they would be showing a future date in the files or where. I used Calibre to sideload books. |

Just use Windows Explorer to browse the Kindle’s drive and look at the date and time of one of the books which is misbehaving. |

A new development happened. I used my bluetooth for the first time today for an audiobook (I rarely listen to them, first time with the PW4). I have not connected to Wi-Fi today, but apparently connecting to the bluetooth bumped the books up again.
![]() Trying to check the times now on the device and books, hopefully that fixes it. Last edited by Paperbackstash; 04-24-2019 at 09:02 PM. |

When I hooked the Paperwhite to the computer, the sideloaded books disappeared from the top when I disconnected again.
I checked one of the books that is a problem, and the date is okay - 11/8/2018, but there is something odd with the author's first initial (has a _ ) for the author folder in the kindle device. Will try changing that and see if that fixes it. Last edited by Paperbackstash; 04-24-2019 at 09:44 PM. |
