Way to resize all images
Hi. I have some books which may have images that are considerably smaller than the output device's screen width. I have reconverted them using the tablet output format, and of course, that doesn't seem to resize them. I have tried to resize the images by setting a specified output device that has a fairly wide (but not wider than my device's screen) width, but that didn't seem to make a difference. I have not looked at the html or CSS.
Is there a way to force ALL images in an Epub output to resize to a certain or minimal width other than batch resizing the images within the Epub (zip) file? And would this even be advisable? Thank you in advance. Last edited by SFCurley; 03-02-2019 at 07:33 PM. |

You need to change the output profile in the conversion dialog not Preferences->Common options, then it will work. https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/con...for-conversion

Thank you, Kovad.
So, I resized the image to a larger size and set the options for a wide-format, high resolution device (iPad 3), and set those options in the conversion dialog box However, the image is still displaying in much smaller format. Opening the book editor, I see that there is CSS targeting that image that sets it to the smaller size. So, two questions, if you would please: 1. Is this the expected behavior? 2. Is there anyway, aside from manually editing the CSS, where such is the case, to have all images be larger, say 2000px wide? Thank you again. |

If there is CSS tagetting the image, it will have come from theinput document, calibre does not add any such CSS on its own. There is no generic way to override such CSS, but you can use the Extra CSS setting in the look & feel section of th econversion dialog to provide your own override CSS

Is the CSS also present in the original? If so, yes, it is expected.
There is no good way other than manually editing the CSS and very likely the book code. Unless the original images are high resolution, you are going to get GIGO. Remember that quite a few images included in ebooks are not intended to be viewed at large sizes (scene separators and chapter headers will often use fleurons, vignettes, ornaments or embellishments (aka "frilly bits") or a publisher logo are examples of graphics intended to be displayed at small sizes). I've attached an example of a publisher logo which was a 200x200 image in the original epub. Magnifying it to 2000x2000 makes it look rather ugly. |
