Help requested(Newbie) import subdirectory tree
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/
Help requested(Newbie) import subdirectory tree Hi to all. I have collected thousands of epubs via various devices and means. My directory/subdirectories organisation is consequently dreadful, structure of names (&author etc, metadata) is highly variable. It all badly needs a cleanup. I moved all my various subdirectories under one directory, mainly because an app I was going to use: FBReader for Windows, would read the resulting tree structure and I figured that once this was done I could fix the "structure of names (&author etc, metadata) " over time. The problem is that FBReader is very very slow with this many files and the resultant library format is not to my liking and not very helpful anyway. I have Calibre, Readium and Adobe Digital Editions. I like Calibre, (great App) have used it many times but mainly for format conversions (I've been reading a subset of epub stuff in Readium which is a pretty limited Reader app/plugin for Chrome and about to vanish, and doesn't solve my current problem anyway) I am certainly not fluid/expert in using Calibre. It scores high for 'Library Management' on various review websites but I can't see how it works for 'Library Management' or how it might be used to fix my problems. Any advice on How to use Calibre,Readium or Adobe Digital Editions to import and organise such a tree structure - or a recommendation for another ebook library manager for windoze (preferably Free because I'm very Cash-disadvantaged) would be gratefully received. ** ATTN MODERATORS If I'm in the wrong place/asking the wrong questions, I would be grateful if you could move this post and drop me a note with the new location. Thanks to all. *** ![]() |

You can add books from various directory structures, viz
if you use toolbar buttons the Add Books flyout menu is a drop down menu But you must decide if you will extract metadata from file names using a template, or from the metadata embedded in the ebook file content. You set that in the Control the adding of books->Reading metadata tab. BR |

My thanks and clarification request
Many thanks for the swift, helpful response.
The problem is that I couldn''t see the dropdown menu you posted.... after a search I found it from a small down arrow on 'Add Books' - something I had simply not noticed I will give it a good try. ANd thank you for the kind help. Much appreciated. & regards from Oz ![]() |
