Vietnamese full fixed 99% read for Kobo
Hi!
I spent two days studying how to make the kobo display Vietnamese. There are many ways that have been shared before. I followed and got a 99% read error. Another way to help me read the book but the title of the book was just the box. This is very annoying. I downloaded a file and discovered that renaming the fonts to fontsx was what caused the kobo 99% read error. Code:
mv usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fontsx Code:
mkdir usr/local/Trolltech/QtEmbedded-4.6.2-arm/lib/fonts You can download file from this 1.Download the fonts (NotoSerif) and a epub book 2.Connect your Kobo with PC. 3.Create fonts folder in kobo 4 Copy NotoSerif fonts to folder fonts 5 Copy epub file to your kobo 5.Eject and disconnect Kobo wait kobo autoupdate 6.Connect kobo to PC again 7. Copy KoboRoot.tgz to .kobo folder 8. Eject and wait kobo update 9. Now you see all are squares. Click on the book and click on the Aa icon. Choose Noto Serif and enjoy your book ![]() I use google translate hope you can understand Work for 4.4.9344 firmware Last edited by astroner; 06-06-2017 at 05:42 AM. |

Don't use Bookerly. There are some bugs with Bookerly that may cause it not to display properly. You can fix things in a font editor, but unless you know what you are doing, stay away from Bookerly.

Hi astroner,
I just used your patch for my Kobo Aura which can help me to read all my books in vietnamese. But some crash happend when I open some vietnamese book they just appear a blank screen and auto restart my Kobo. Besides some english character become square like vietnamese before patch. I used 4.4.9344 software version. Tks! |

Thanks for your guide @astroner.
![]() However, I got away with something simpler: * I didn't need to use KoboRoot.tgz or root my device whatsoever. * I didn't use your attachment tiengviet.rar. * No terminal usage, I just used Finder on my mac. But your advice to use Noto Serif was spot on and probably saved me lots of time! Again thanks! If anyone finds it useful, the instructions in this thread are similar to the ones in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MahsySF4Hk4 |
