Lots of ghosting text after only 10 page turns
Hi, i get excessive ghosting after only 10 page turns. I have my kobo aura set to refresh the whole page after only 4 turns, but i've seen some posts of people going all the way up to 99 page turns without problems.
Could this be a faulty screen? or maybe i'm missing some specific config parameter to achieve those 99 page turn (i'm happy with less than that hehehe) I'm attaching some sample pictures i took of my reader after 1 and 10 page turns, for comparison. This happens with an without the backlight turned on. 1 page turn 10 page turns |

To decide If it is a faulty, damaged, or worn-out screen it might help to know if it has been this way since the device was new, or did it become worse over time?
Also there were some firmware versions that had ghosting issues on some devices, so it might help to know what version you are running. But then the original Aura N514 was a bit of an oddball, it has a different screen type / screen refresh combination than any other Kobo device before or since, so even if there is nothing wrong, what is reported for other devices might not necessarily be a good guide to what you can expect on the Aura. Edit: Since firmware 4.8.10956 there seems to be a new setting that can be added to the [Reading] section of the "Kobo eReader.conf" configuration file that might affect the screen refresh on the Aura: Code:
[Reading] disableRegal=true Last edited by GeoffR; 03-05-2019 at 02:47 AM. Reason: new disableRegal configuration setting |

Kobo Aura does a different kind of screen refresh from any other Kobo I've owned. It's much less obtrusive than the full-screen flash-to-black on other units. I have mine set to every page and I find that's the best solution (and not bothersome). More recent models (the Aura was introduced in August 2013) can go more pages without a refresh.
Remember, Kobo Aura, Kobo Aura HD, Kobo Aura One, and Kobo Aura Edition 2 are all different devices; the figures you've seen from other "Aura" users may be for different machines. Kobo Aura is a 6-inch device with a flush (not indented) screen and power button on the top (not the back). Last edited by RobertJSawyer; 03-05-2019 at 02:04 PM. |

My Aura does the flash-to-black when I have it set to refresh on every page turn, which is my preference because it keeps the text crisp. Personally, I've never found the flash-to-black to be any more distracting than turning the page of a physical book and have never understood why it bothers people so much.

The increased ghosting is a little weird though. |

Like you, I held out on updating until I screwed up the database and the kobo updated itself as part of a reset. I decided the damage was done and kept the new firmware as a trial. I don't mind the new home screen. It's certainly not an improvement and I'd be happy if Kobo would launch a revamped version of the tiles. But the new homescreen isn't bad. The thing is, you have to use it long enough so that it the Recommended box in the lower right quadrant changes. Mine usually shows a collection of other books in my library by the author of my current book. So the new home screen does change and adapt, though it's not as customizable as the tiles were. And the increased ghosting seems to be some weird effect of the newest firmware. I didn't have that issue previously. It only seems to effect original 6" Auras. |

i know i can use search to find a book instead and it doesn't slow down even with 3000+ books but i prefer to go into the collections. if/when i try another firmware on my Aura 6" it will be 3.19.5760 first. edit to correct spelling of sickel. i'm also not keen on the sickel feature which 3.16.0 doesn't have. best wishes koboy ![]() Last edited by koboy; 03-07-2019 at 09:21 PM. |

If sickle kicks in on 3.19.x or later, it is because it was needed. It was only the first release or two where it was causing issues.
