Second PW4 frontlight seems much warmer

So I got myself a second PW4 in hopes of hacking... just for it to come with V 5.10.1.3 (ugh)

But I noticed immediately that the light was a lot less blue compared to my first one.

That's fairly normal. I have several ereaders and I help my neighbors with theirs. There's as much difference within the same model as from model to model.

I have 3 Paperwhite 4's and when they're side by side there are noticeable differences. When I'm reading they're all perfect. This only matters when comparing.

I have two PW4s and had never compared them. So, I did. They are quite different. Now, back to reading.

That's nice. All my PW4's run cool (got 3, too ).

Sad to hear the new ones are no longer jailbreakable, though.

Where did you buy your last Paperwhite? Amazon just sent me another one and it was a 5.10.0.2 firmware. It’s not as warm though.

Interesting, seeing that jogs my memory, my newer PW4 also came with 5.10.0.2. I wonder if it's because of getting a combination of features that is less popular (32GB, no adds) and because of that, maybe you get one that's been sitting there for a while in some warehouse. I dunno....doesn't matter to me as I don't have a need to jailbreak mine. I upgraded to 5.10.3.

I can't tell any difference between the lighting on mine and the recent Oasis 2 I tested. It's about the same, and ok with me. Both were inferior to the warmer natural lighting option on the new Kobo devices, just my preference.

Most likely. I expect the 4G LTE version would have the highest likelihood of being old stock.

That suggests you probably got the latest batch from the factory.
