iTunes keeps saying storage is full?
Hi. I'm back again with more questions and it only took a few days.
![]() Ummm, I have a 1st Gen iPad and I am using it on Windows. It is 16GB but of course with all software I have around 13/14GB to use. I am using this iPad solely for books so I told myself keep the books within 10GB. Which I did. If I am not mistaken I only added 8GB of books. But every single time I am done uploading all the books, even if I individually upload it like 10 at a time so both my computer and the iPad has time to process, it tells me that my storage is full. Half way through the upload it tells me there is a few gigs left. Right at the end the "Date & Documents" and "Others" section of the storage spikes high and suddenly I get the message saying that my iPad needs a minimum of blahblah storage to sync. Now I can't upload anything else which makes me confused because I know I have space so.... What is Apple doing to me? ![]() ![]() |

Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Click on "Manage Storage". You will get a complete list of apps and the space they are using. You can also click on any app and get a bit more detail: how big the app itself is and how much additional space is being used for documents & data. |

Hi! I did that, it shows me all the mini useage of my 10 apps and apple apps, continues to load (I am assuming to show iBooks) but doesn't and then crashes.
If this is such a hassle is the most simple solution less books? Even though I am really cracking my head about this... Hahha I just want to read my books. Hahaha |

2. If it still crashes, then repeat #1 while turning off all Internet access. |

16GB iPad doesn't really have 16GB available to the user. Iirc, it was more along 12GB or so because some of the space is used by the operating system.

What does iTunes say the free storage is when you connect the iPad to your PC/Mac?

It is likely on such an old machine that you need to clean it up a bit. I suggest you back up the device using itunes and then do a full reset. After that is complete reload your device from the backup. What is likely happening is that the free memory is fractured into little pieces and the is not sufficient block of memory left. This procedure will place all of the free memory is one block.

Another thought. Iirc, iBooks stores ebooks in decompressed form so 8GB worth of EPUB could be using a lot more space when transferred to iBooks.

Hey you guys, thank you for the advice and tips. I literally tired everything that was mentioned. Restarting etc and looking at the amount I have as per @ilovejedd's comment about iBooks sotring ebooks n a decompressed form.
In the end, I cut down like 2 gigs of books and despite restarting I still couldn't see where the space was been taken. My itunes just kept telling me that I only had 256 MB and it's not enough to sync but that comment had varied everytime I restored my iPad and uploaded all over again. So after a few minutes of swearing, I restored my iPad again (thanks for the suggestions you guys!) and with the 2GB less ebooks, I manually added them. So for example instead of uploading "all books" right away, I selected maybe 50 at a time and just synced and waited patiently. Haha Funny enough with this manual process I actually now have more space than I had whilst uploading the whole thing at once. So strange. But honestly, I am grateful for all your help. This really helped me not throw my iPad out of the window especially since I do know it is a little dinosaur. Haha |
