[Nook] Comments not showing in book details
I'm having a problem getting comments to show up in my book details in my Nook library (oldest e-ink version) and in my Calibre Companion app.
Because it's happening in the Nook and not just the CC app, I'm pretty sure it's something Calibre is doing when it's sending the metadata. The thing is, I have no idea why this started happening. I did three things right before it started happening. 1. I edited a few books to get rid of junk in them. Coulda messed one up, for sure, but I did run the check on each of them before saving and closing. 2. I changed how Calibre shows dates through Preferences and Tweaks. It worked after the fact, and I'm confident I did it correctly. 3. I set up a news download and Calibre automatically sent it to my connected device, but then I deleted the news books and the custom recipe too (it was really just a test and I decided against using Calibre for news). With the very next connection a few minutes later, I realized my comments weren't showing up in the books I sent to my devices. At that point, I undid all the things I'd done in Calibre, but none of that fixed it. I deleted ALL my books in Calibre Companion, then resent just a few, and that didn't fix it. I cleared the cache and the data in the Calibre Companion app in Android settings, basically everything, and set up CC again from scratch. I cleaned the database. Didn't fix it. I found out I could uncheck "formatting in comments" and the comments DO show up. I figured I could live with that. But then I realized it was happening in my e-ink Nook too. I know it's old, but it works and I use it as my primary e-ink reader. ![]() I reinstalled Calibre. I wiped all my Calibre user data and configurations and reinstalled Calibre again. Basically, other than wiping Calibre and Calibre Companion and starting from scratch and rebuilding my library from the books themselves, I don't know what else to do to fix this. But I depend on the comments (book descriptions) in my library of 2321 books and I need it to work. What am I overlooking? I really want to fix this. |

If your problems are because of HTML formatting in comments, remove the HTML formatting, IIRC the Quality Check calibre plugin can do that in bulk for you.

Thanks. I did install and use the Quality Check plugin to identify comments with html formatting and I manually stripped out any embedded formatting for several hundred books last night, but just taking the html out of the comments hasn't made them show up on the nook again.
As long as the formatting in comments option is turned off in Calibre Companion, I can see them on my android devices, but on the nook, they're still just gone. And when I return CC to the default (formatting in comments checked) all the comments just disappear again. Not sure what's going on to be honest. |

Sorry it's been a very long time since I've even seen a nook, so I dont have much insight to offer. A possible workaround is to use the embed metadata as jacket page conversion option, so then you can at least read the comments inside the book, if not in the book listing.

I appreciate the assistance. I've about decided not to worry about it. It's kind of awkward to view details on the nook anyway because the touchscreen menu is pretty slow so I usually know what I want to read on the nook before I open something anyway.
![]() It's just got my mind all torn up because it was working one minute and not the next, and I don't know what could have changed in my Calibre library to cause it. My biggest concern is that I've introduced some unrecognized glitch into my library by messing around with the news feeds and date stuff and that it's going to come back and bite me later when I forget all about this and what *might* have started it. I'll probably just keep troubleshooting and update if and when I ever figure it out. ![]() |

It's really not a nook specific issue so this is kind of weird to have it moved here. Even though I'd really like the nook issue fixed, I'm *most* interested in trying to figure out how to get comments to show in calibre companion when the "formatting in comments" is checked. Maybe it should be there instead.
Anyway, I'm just going to wait to post again until when or if I finally do figure it out. |

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet and having the same problem with comments not showing unless I uncheck show formatting in comments. I haven't done any tinkering and this problem just started. I'm running Calibre 3.38.1 and Calibre Companion 5.4.3.3 (391).
