Failing to copy books between libraries

I have been using the superb Calibre software for about eight years.
Today, after updating to version 3.39.0 I have had problems copying books between libraries. An error report is shown - an example of which I quote below:

calibre, version 3.39.0
ERROR: Failed to copy books: Could not copy any books, click "Show Details" for more information.

Failed to copy a book, see below for details

Copying: The Jack Noble Series: Books 4-6 (The Jack Noble Series Box Set) failed, with error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\actions\copy_to_library.py", line 160, in _doit
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\actions\copy_to_library.py", line 175, in do_one
File "site-packages\calibre\db\copy_to_library.py", line 109, in copy_one_book
File "site-packages\calibre\db\copy_to_library.py", line 63, in postprocess_copy
File "site-packages\calibre\db\cache.py", line 63, in call_func_with_lock
TypeError: set_conversion_options() takes at most 3 arguments (4 given)

I shall be most grateful for help in resolving this problem. Thank you in advance.

Seems like a bug in the 39.0 version
Either wait for 39.1 or roll back to 38.1 (great reason to keep the last couple of installers handy)
(just uninstall 39.0, then install 38.1)

Thank you for your prompt response.
Indeed, I do keep a couple of previous installers.
My worry was that if I uninstall the latest version and revert to the previous one, all my settings for my libraries might be lost. Perhaps this is not the case, I should value your advice.
Thank you.

Thank you.
No problems over many years of doing this.
Part of the installer, checks to see if a NEW user setup is needed, and skips that if one was found.
That does NOT mean you should NOT do a backup. Right click the Library Icon (no device connected) : EXPORT to a external storage device. That defaults (user can change) to ALL known Libraries and settings

Thank you very much. I had forgotten that this tool existed in Calibre.
I shall report back in due course!

I have just uninstalled Calibre 3.39.0 and reinstalled 3.38.0
I had carried out the backup which you suggested, but did not need to use it as after installing 3.38.0 all my settings and libraries were magically present!
Moreover, books could again be copied between libraries as before.

Thank you for your expert help. A big relief for me as I had accumulated more than 3,000 books in my various Calibre libraries.

I hope that in the next version of Calibre this bug will be corrected.

Kovid Goyal certainly created a fantastic piece of software.

Thank you again for your help.

Good. I did not expect a backup would be needed.
Do keep the backup in a safe place. I've been using PC's for over 30 years and have yet to discover a single failure mode that I could rely on being warned it was going to fail (And I have seen some doozies)

BTW What OS were you using, so Kovid can take a look when he drops by

I am using Windows 7 professional.
(Like yourself, I have been involved with computers for a long time.
Believe it or not, in my case it is more than 60 years!)

Oh! I worked on/with computers for longer 1973 as a civilian. Earlier as a Navy ET). I am very familiar with Punched Tape, and Hollerith (IBM) cards. I was referring to PC usage at home.
BTW I still have a very early 300baud direct connect modem (on the collectors shelf ),

Very interesting. I spent time as an undergraduate in Prof. Freddie Williams' department at the University of Manchester in 1957. Things were somewhat different in those long ago days! Principles just the same though.
I'm glad to see that you have shown Kovid the bug.
Best wishes.
