Calibre - removing author from customized title

An update to an old thread (Remove Authors Name From Converted Titles, 2018):
I too like saving my titles as "author - title", and was irritated by Calibre adding author's name again at the end. I discovered a simple tweek in Preferences that does the trick:
Click on Preferences on Menu bar at top of screen
under Import/Export click on Saving Books to Disk
in Save template section, change default
{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors}
by deleting the second " - {authors}" so that it reads
{author_sort}/{title}/{title}
and click on Apply

You may need to repeat this if you download an updated version of Calibre.

Just to be clear, that is used when you do a "Save to disk". It doesn't affect the books in the library. And I usually use the "Save to disk in a single folder" as I just want the book and do not need the extra folder.

Correct. Now that you've pointed out that there are options under Save to disk, I'll be using "Save only EPUB format to disk in a single directory." and deleting the two extra files that appear, rather than having to go into the two layers of folders each time.
I don't use Calibre for the library, just to permanently change an epub title and save it to my downloads folder on my MacBook Pro, and move it from there into my own library folder, where I add aliases if needed (I download lots of history books, so like having the aliases as cross-references). I usually then Airdrop books to my iPad for reading.

Thanks for the tip! I unclicked everything, and now get the single EPUB file in my downloads.
