Calibre back-up through Total Commander synchronization
Hi, need your help.
Searching through forums but still not sure, that I understand correctly specifics of Calibre back-up. I've got one library at Calibre; it contains over 30,000 of books. I didn't understand the system of backing up, so use simple copying of my library folder to the external drive. The number of my books is so huge because I send to Calibre all books collected through the years on different computers, phones, flash drives, cloud storages, etc. I'm looking through my books, deleting duplicates, changing author's names, filling tags and doing many other things - so my library is permanently changing. If I use the function of one way synchro in Total Commander (from laptop to external drive), can it broke the external copy or not? Last edited by mingfa; 01-11-2019 at 02:55 PM. Calibre does not have any specific library backup/restore tool as such, see How do I backup calibre?.
Many calibre users use file synch tools to maintain a mirror copy of their library folders and if they're sensible their configuration data too. I've seen mention of Free File Synch, Synch Toys, rsynch, and GoodSync at least. There are lots of relevant threads at MR, do a search for 'backup' in the Calibre forums Providing Total Commander does not add, change, or delete anything in the folders it is mirroring (i.e. the source folders) then it should be OK. And if it doesn't add any extraneous folders or files to the mirrors (i.e the target folders) you will be able to use them with calibre in the event that the 'production' copies suffer a catastrophe. The Total Commander directory sync functionality (in one way/mirror mode) will get you a working backup of your library. I've used it for that purpose in the past.
