Regenerate metadata from opf files

Hello,

I’ve just got a large base of free epubs in Spanish, they were interned to work with calibre, but seems the author deleted/forgot to upload the metadata.db file.

The good thing is that everything is well structured with folders following this pattern:

Author/Book/Files - where files are ALWAYS three files: ePub, OPF, and cover.

I tried to add the books with the add book option, but it took about 40 minutes to add 300 books. Is there any option to do not process books and just take its opf, cover and ePub to include it in the metadata file?

no you have to add them.

calibredb restore_database --library-path="path to library like folder" -r

See calibredb for restrictions, and warnings.

How long it takes? Same as adding books again?

Don't think so, I only ever did it this way. Far as I know it only reads the opf files and writes the database tables, it'll take longer if the books have a lot of custom columns. Adding also reads the format files to copy them into the target library, and depending on your adding options it might even open the format files or do a conversion.

Do a test on say 50 books

It should be a bit faster, because it does not read metadata from the book files, only the OPF, but not a lot faster.
