Metadata slow to save after edit (new user)
Hello,
I have just started to experiment with Calibre, and imported 10 pdf's into my first library. I have been very surprised to find that saving changes to metadata for a single book takes several seconds. That's the delay between clicking OK and the edit window closing. Is this expected behaviour ? The problem was raised here, and kovidgoyal said : Quote:

Adding new books is intensive.
A simple MDE (metadata edit) happens fairly fast EXCEPT when you change someting that affects multiple books. Changing the case of a Tag, is one of those science fiction -> Science Fiction dirties all records with the tag (the tag mapper is case insensitive, so adding a book with the wrong case, flips all usage. ![]() |

The observed behavior is normal. Don't be frightened.
That said you can easily improve performance by making sure that your computer is working properly with at least 10-20% free hdd, that is error free and optimized and also that you don't run other programs simultaneously. It is not normal to add 10000 books to calibre at one time. If that is something you would be likely to do often then you might consider upgrading the computer with more memory and a fast SSD. As well as disconnecting from the network and disabling any antivirus while adding. |

Thank you, that's a relief. I won't be adding 10 000 books anytime soon...
While I'm at it, I've been banging my head against the wall, trying to save a "published in" date with only the year. Is there a way to avoid the date + month + year format ? |
