New Kobo
I had a lot of help from the forum when I thought my Kindle Paperwhite was about to die. It survived. But it got me thinking my next e-reader should be a Kobo Aura H2O 6.8" eReader (2nd Generation). I have MS, which means my vision is not good, I need a huge font, so a larger screen would be great. The Kobo Forma 8" eReader and Kindle Oasis 2017 7" are just way to awkward in size and or design for me to hold comfortably for long lengths. Plus I am looking forward to accessing Australian Public Libraries with a Kobo.
One problem I would love to fix is the inability to increase the font size on both the library and collection screen. Somebody mentioned this was possible with a Kobo. I would love a photo of how this would look on a kobo, please. I use a details view, as I find cover views difficult for me. Below is the size font I read with, collections and library view. If anybody has a better suggestion than the Kobo Aura H2O 6.8" eReader (2nd Generation) or a heads up of something better due out, I would love to hear. ![]() Last edited by applesauce; 11-19-2018 at 10:07 PM. This is a pic using the "beta" large print setting.
This is on my Forma. I wouldn't discount it on size/shape right off. It's about the same height as the original H2O and about an inch wider. But it is MUCH lighter (and you get the advantage of the bigger screen) |

My advice: large screen (KA1 or Forma).
You have the implemented `Large Print Mode` and the `Progresive` patch which can be adapted at your needs increasing the font-size as much as you want or changing the font-family... Good luck. EDIT: The images are taken from a KA1 with the `Progresive` patch. If you need/want something more... don't hesitate. Last edited by jcn363; 11-20-2018 at 03:08 AM. Reason: images |

I received my Aura H2O2 yesterday and am very happy with it. The increase in screensize from my 6-inch Clara was very gratifying. I decided against the Forma partly because the shape is awkward for me, the H2O2 is quite literally a better fit. But the biggest consideration was price. The Forma is around 1.6 times the cost of the H2O2, not a jump I was prepared to take, especially after reading so many reports of build quality issues with the Forma.

Thank you, everybody, the cost is a consideration, a big one but the biggest one is my ability to handle it. I have a real thing about buttons. I actually have the Kindle Voyage, the Paperwhite was my previous one. I never use the buttons, I find them very awkward to use one-handed. I lie on my side to read in bed, the shape of the Forma along with the button position would be very annoying, I do love how light it is for the size. I also love to put it in my handbag, going bigger will make that not practical. I will go and check out both the big ones in person. I can directly download to any of these Kobo models using overdrive in the Australian public library system?

I have attached two photos of my Aura H2O. One uses the "Large print mode" and the other the normal. They should give an idea of the differences in the size of the interface. |

The thing with the Forma is that you need to use it the way it is designed to be used and get used to it. The bezel is thinner, and I found that I would unintentionally touch the screen (causing something unintentional to happen). I gave the reader to my mother, and she does the same thing, only more frequently.

If your device is supported, then yes, you can use the Kobo Store on the Kobo and can borrow instead of purchase the book. Your choice. The loan will then directly download to your Kobo (as long as the same book exists at both your library's OverDrive and at the Kobo Store). At your option, you can also use an OverDrive app, like Libby, to check the book out of your library and when you sync your Kobo, it will automatically download to your Kobo as well. |

Sorry I am not good at working out quotes.
davidfor JB HI-FI here in WA has them in stock at 2 of their stores. I will go an have a look next week. Thanks, abdirahim, I was unsure if it was all Kobo models or just particular ones. John F that is what worries me. Another question, can you show just details ? or does a picture of the cover always appear? |

The other reason to consider the Forma over the H2O2 is the flexible substrate, if you tend to have fumble-fingers. It's a big draw.

Only if it can survive being kneeled or sat on when it's on top of the bed or couch. It seems to be a rather buggy product.

Thanks to CP, my fingers are ever more fumbly, and that was one reason why the form of the Forma counted against it for me, it was a repellent, not a draw. The smaller size and simpler shape of the H2O2, and the nice fat bezels, make it very easy for me to hold in my hemiparetic hand while using my better hand for page navigation. Of course, now that I have an origami sleep/stand case, I don't have to hold it at all, and it has added protection against any drops.
