PW4 vs. Oasis2 Review
I thought it was interesting and accurate, although my experience on the Oasis2 was limited to two days. I went back to my PW3s.

The oasis just isn't worth over double the price (once you add in tax).

Before getting the Oasis I also thought that a 6'' screen is more than enough. Bu now, after reading on its 7'' screen for a year, I don't want to go back to a smaller screen. Of course portability is more important for some people, but not for me (I almost never read books outside my home). |

I personally couldn't go back to the smaller display, although I sure like the higher contrast on the Voyage. (Can we have both, please, Amazon?)
It's true I didn't pay the full price for my Oasis 2. With a flash sale and a trade-in discount, mine was only 7 or so dollars more than a Paperwhite 4 is, so I'm not sure where I stand on the value question. I probably would have gotten it still. I just like holding out for the bargains. |

I read on a few 6" ereaders of all the major brands. I also have a Kobo Mini whose 5" screen would be perfect for me if it had a front light. When I'm away from home I read on my 5.1" Galaxy S5 phone. That's actually perfect for me, or it would be if it was e-ink.
Some things are just really personal. I remember when I had an Audible forum we'd often discuss narrators and some that I thought were terrible were beloved by a lot of people. We're all different and ain't that nice. ![]() Barry |

We were an all Paperwhite household until I bought a Kobo Clara last month. Now I've gone on to an Aura H2O2 and so love the extra screensize I'm getting my wife one tomorrow, while my Dad continues to get great mileage out of my Paperwhite 2. At 6.8 inches, the H2O2 screen is almost the same size as the Oasis, for A LOT less money, and is an option I'd seriously recommend others at least consider when weighing up the various factors involved in choosing an e-reader. As is the Forma for those comfortable with the cost of an Oasis - get an 8 inch screen for not much more than the cost of a 7-inch. |

Everyone is missing the value of having something that's expensive. Apple, Rolex, Rolls Royce have made money out of not making something better but by charging more.
"It turns out you can do the same for bargain kicks by showcasing the footwear against the kind of chic backdrop usually reserved for luxury labels like Jimmy Choo and getting people to pay outrageous markups. That’s what Payless did recently in Santa Monica, taking over a former Armani store and stocking it with $19.99 pumps and $39.99 boots. The chain, via agency DCX Growth Accelerator, invited groups of influencers to the grand opening of “Palessi” and asked their opinions on the “designer” wares." https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketi...-for-20-shoes/ A business associate asked me if people would think he was cool if he had the latest Kindle. I asked him if he enjoyed reading and he said, "No." I told him the only store where you can buy cool is Apple. It says a lot the Kindle announced the original Oasis 2 case wasn't intended to protect the Oasis but was to personalize your Kindle. Then they discontinued the case. Of course, the buttons are a big plus. Me? I'm looking for a car with a hand crank for the starter. I had been wondering who got Levi's with a button fly instead of a zipper. Which reminds me. Zippers used to break, get misaligned, and open at inconvenient times. Somebody improved zippers. If the Oasis were the same price as the Paperwhite4, I might get one to use at home. To read away from home it would definitely be the Paperwhite. But, I don't carry a purse or wear a skirt but I do have pockets. But, would I pay double to read an Oasis 2 at home? Obviously not. Edit: "Earlier this month Amazon finally started selling their own official covers for the Kindle Oasis 2 after nearly a year since they stopped selling the original covers that got a bunch of negative reviews. Now Amazon has added a third option with their new Kindle Oasis Premium Leather Cover, which is currently available to pre-order. It sells for $64.99 and it gets released on December 5th." I bought the Oasis 2 last year, and the Paperwhite 4 this year. I love them both equally (plus my 4 year old Voyage), however I wouldn’t have bought the Oasis 2 if the Paperwhite had come out before, or at the same time.
There’s probably a very good business case why Amazon waited so long to upgrade the Paperwhite ![]() |
