Resize ebook to below 50mb

I have an ebook that is >100mb. Is it possible to reduce the file size of this book in calbre by reducing the quality of the images?

Don't use 'Tablet' or something with a big screen), as the output profile.
If you use Kindle (the earlier e-ink versions), the images are under 800x600.

Also, don't embed any non-specialized font. sub-set others.

Unpack the book (Tap 'U'), use explore (details) t0 see where the big stuff is, then make your plan. (just cancel the Unpack)

As always: SAVE A COPY OF THE BOOK before things go south

Did you try Calibre's tool for image compression? It does a good job and works very fast if the images are .jpg and not .png.

Edit window > Tools > Compress images losslessly
Select all the images and check "Enable lossy compresion." Try a setting of 50 first. After working, the Calibre dialog will report on before/after sizes. If this is not enough, try 30 or below. I favor a setting of 50 because the loss of quality at that level is impossible to detect even on the 300ppi Kindle.

Thank you for pointing this out! I've been doing it the hard way...exporting to Gimp, reducing, and re-importing. This is fast and works very well.

This worked for me. Didn't have to resort to amending the image compression tools.

Many thanks.
