old kindle 2 b003 model

I recently bought one on ebay and saw that it wasn't fully updated since it wouldn't register with amazon. So I upgraded the firmware manually and it worked. However, in doing so I lost the text to speech functionality. I thought maybe it was a fluke but I looked into it and I guess the Authors Guild deemed that it was against copyright or something so they removed it. Any chance someone still has the old 2.5.3 firmware for the D00701 B003 model? I don't care about registering if it removes the T2S functionality.

Updated firmware didn't remove the TTS feature. Not all books offer it.

It was the same book I was looking at. Also, the menu items completely disappeared. That's how I knew it was gone. There were options to change male and female voice and the speed. Now no matter what I do or where I go there is no option. Also, in the experimental settings menu you cannot even highlight over the text to speech area like before.

I'm sorry you were correct. It just changed location. It isn't in the menu any longer you have to press the Aa key to get to it now
