Can someone confirm if the H2O2 has capacitive grid lines or not?

H202 sorry. I have seen conflicting reports where some say it does, and others swear is does not. Was there a revision of the newer v2 model possibly or is someone just wrong? I do not want grid lines even if they aren't super visible but cannot verify this...even with Kobo.

I've used all the Kobo models and the only one I noticed gridlines on was the original Kobo Aura.

I can't see any no matter how closely I look (and I'm myopic, so I can look verrrry close), but that doesn't mean no one else can.

On the Aura, the easiest way for me to see the gridlines was to show a blank page with the brightness turned up and look across the screen at a 30 degree or so angle (this also brings out any dust, etc. on the screen).

If that the only way they can be seen, I can't see it as a problem.

Well it is for me which I why I asked. Things like that can cause me eye strain as evidenced by other devices with those "barely there" grids bothering me more than those without.

Tested on a blank page with brightness on full, I can see the dust but can't see any grid lines in my Aura (original) or in my H2OE2.

Well this is incredibly frustrating. I have never seen someone say the Aura doesn't have lines...its always been said to. So I don't know if your's is a revision that somehow does not, or if you just can't see them. And I still don't know if the H202 does or not.

My H2O2 screen definitely has more of a pattern on it than the Glo HD or Clara, but it's not nearly as distracting as I remember the 6" Aura screen being (no light-dependent scratch patterns on top of the grid, for one). I had to describe the problem quite minutely to others before they agreed I wasn't seeing things, but they did agree eventually. It shouldn't really be noticeable from a normal reading distance.

Still, if you, like me, are the type to look at an eInk screen close enough to see its imperfections regardless of the resolution, well, at least you'd have something extra to bemoan with the H2O2. It's still my favourite from Kobo's current models.

When you say pattern do you mean texture or actual lines? The capacitive grid I am talking about are faint lines like a piece of grid paper...often at a 45deg angle. They are often very hard to see but are there as part of the "touch" layer. You can see these on some tablet and other touch screen laptops as well when they are turned off, but its not so common any more. I am not talking about grain or texture in the surface.

Certainly the H2O Edition 2 v1 has the grid and, as far as I know, the only change for the H2O Edition 2 v2 was the processor, not the screen.

You can see the grid here https://hd.tudocdn.net/677628 though that photo has clearly had some contrast adjustment as the black/white balance is extreme and greater than in real life.

I can see the grid if looking through a macro lens or if looking very, very close up in very good light, but it's not at all visible in normal use.

The H2O Edition 2 v1 does have a slightly greyer background than other Kobos I have when the frontlight is turned off. That, I suspect, is the effect of the grid lines.

Here is a picture of the grid lines on the old Kobo Aura (Original from 2013)
This is a small section of the top part of the screen taken outdoors in the sun which is the only time I usually saw the grid lines, looks like scratches on the screen and was only visible on the top 2-3cm of the screen on my Aura. I did take a look at H2O2 at Indigo earlier this evening and couldn't see anything like this on the screen but the light in the store is not optimal for looking for this sort of thing.

If you're planning to read close up on a thirty degree angle with the device at full brightness, yes, I'd say definitely don't get this device.

Your best bet would be to try to view on in real life before buying. Your profile doesn't say where you are, so I have no suggestions for you. Or just buy an IR device.

So no H202 owners or Kobo can verify this definitively for me? It still seems some say they exist, some say they do not. I don't know if there are variants/revisions that have different setups or if some people are just incorrect. Kobo is of no help. I am not interested in opinions on whether its an issue or not...I am interested if it's THERE or not and cannot lay hands on one without ordering online. Not talking about texture either...capacitive grid lines only. Again the question is only do the capacitive grid lines exist on the H20 v2.
