Hi, I'm considering (finally) getting a new reader since my last one gave up the ghost a year ago - tablet reading is hard on the eyes after a while.
I was wondering how the kindle deals with series. I have a lot of different series in my library and, from what I can tell, I would have to sort them into a collection for each series, which would of course remove the series order. Am I missing something? Does the kindle have series functionality which presents all the books in order? |

Sometimes the Kindle Store will know that something is a series and will list it out in order and it will show which books are in your library and you can (on Kindle) download the title from there. But this is not always the case. I’m certain that Amazon gets regular feedback from customers requesting this feature (at least I have done so a few times). Eventually they may get around to it. Personally I try to create as few collections as possible (basically just track reading status). Too much work, and I’m uncertain there would be any benefit for me to do so. I have 1800 books in my library, most of which I have yet to read. Even if they were ‘organized’, it would not help me decide what to read next, or find things more quickly. I would appreciate some built-in views of my library that I didn’t have to maintain myself. As one example, there could be some auto-collections that show which books I have not started, those I’ve s started, and those I’ve finished. |

I do a lot of series and yes, they need to be in order. I use Calibre's Plugboard for that. There is probably a link here somewhere that says the same thing, but this is how I figured out how to do it in the first place. I put the series first and then the title of the book. It's awesome!
https://www.howtogeek.com/114063/how...-ebook-series/ Collections doesn't work for me because it goes across ereaders and I have several family member ereaders attached to my account. Supposedly there is a fix for that, but I can't figure it out, so I just use list and I'm happy. |

Yikes. I thought that would be one of the first things they added. I used to have a Sony E-reader that handled series with no problems.
It's a shame as I have about 6000 books I want to put on the reader and organisation is going to be key. Thanks guys, I'll have to think about this more. |

I too use a metadata plugboard in Calibre. Unlike Tarana, this does not result in any feelings of awe for me personally, but it is an eminently satisfactory solution (if one uses Calibre, of course).

Series management is not a priority for me as I generally prefer standalone fiction. I use calibre only to format shift to Kindle, which only involves about one book a month (and then I usually don’t even get around to reading it!).
Still it would be an obvious thing for Amazon to do, as it would probably increase sales of series titles as people try to complete their collections (especially if they inserted placeholders for the titles you don’t own). I boldly predict it will happen in the next year. |
